ive read a lot of sites that have a list of causes, but can it ever just happen by chacne i guess

It can happen by chance according to this website (see the asterisks):
"Some ectopic pregnancies can be due to birth defects of the fallopian tubes, endometriosis, complications of a ruptured appendix, or scarring caused by previous pelvic surgery.** In a few cases, the cause is unknown.** "

As per as I am concern, I too went through same experience.The cause of this kind of pregnancy is that either you are too stressed or weak to have baby. This was the advice given to me by Mid Nurse.I was told to take rest for two months and at the same to avoid to conceive for least for 6 months.
But I belive this kind of pregnancy happens by chance.So don't worry,you will be lucky after next six months.Even though it's quite painful while going through it.Best of luck.

I'm sure it could happen anytime but the chances are increased once you've had a tubal ligation. I don't think it's something you have alot of control over.
