I have recently reformatted my computer therefore I have lost all my songs from iTunes but they are still on my iPod. I want to put them back into iTunes and not lose them. There is about 6000 songs I don't want to lose like last time I did this.
There must be software to allow me to do this...

Go to the Apple site and ask the question on the iPod forum there. Be specific about the kind of computer you have, etc. The techs monitor the forums and one will probably get back to you with some advice. Next time before you reformat your hard drive, back up your iTunes folders so you can reinstall them.

It is possible to 'reverse-transfer' music from an iPod to a computer HD.

You didn't mention what OS you use?

If you are on Mac OSX 10.3 or higher, I would recommend Senuti:

This should really do it, but if not, then 'PodWorks' is another Mac app, available at:

If you use Windows, then download Ephpod, available at:

You can also try another Windows option called 'iDump', available at:

It's also well spoken of.

Also, check the programme's on-line manual or 'help' section to see exactly where the extracted files are diverted to - it's quite possible you may have to re-drag them into the iTunes window to set up your Playlists again.

There is software on the web to do it, but the Ipods were not created for this purpose to discurage illegal sharing of music with the devices. I do believe software exists that allows you to pull them off though, but it can't be done w/ iTunes.

Don't say you can't, because "Apple doesn't approve", what a bunch of baloney.

I recommend Sharepod, but it might be a bit complexe to use.
