no...did you sign a lease?
from what i can gather, you didn't give a deposit, but did you sign a lease? if you did, then re-read that because he could have added something like that in it. also, if there's a lease, did you give him 30-day notice? if you didn't, he could bring a case against you and possibly get that last month's rent. if there's no lease, then you're not under the 30-day notice rule, but instead a two-week notice only and he wouldn't really have a case against you...UNLESS you trashed his apartment

Read your lease does it specify a 30 60 or 90 day notice? If you did not give the correct notice then the landlord is entitled to the last months rent. Good Luck KG

If you did not give a 30 day notice then you will probably have to pay another month unless he turns around and rents it again. Then you would have to pay a pro-rated rent. You can also check you state's renter rights. Just try to search the web for your answer. Also you may have a local renter's rights advocate or you can call legal services and they might be able to help. You can look in your phone book for those numbers. Hope this helps. Try this website it might help some. http://www.nolo.com/resource.cfm/catID/31250834-6A2E-4970-9EDD4DAF221A0C7E/104/138/

Check your contract, but most will specify first and last month's rent. If you did not pay it, it is due. From what you write, you've paid it already. LMR is not a bonus for the landlord.

When you move into n apt or house, they generally ask for first/last months rent and a security deposit..if you have given proper notice, you should not have to pay for your last month..Hope this helps..
