a-SHOW-kin (that's an emphasis on the second syllable)
At least, that's how my orchestra conductor pronounced it when we played the piece "Ashokan Farewell"

Ash-O-Kan, as in Ashokan Reservoir in upstate NY. Now surrounded by a big fence and patrolled by NYPD for fear of terror attack. Used to good fishing in there.....
