I don't think you're too old to start, however you might have a tough time finding an instructor who offers adult classes. In the area that I live, there is only one dance instructor and she doesn't offer any adult classes and pretty much only takes the young ones for beginner classes.

of course it's never to old to start. Try and find a school with people your age so there isn't a dramatic age difference. but if you can't since your older you'll pick up the dances alot faster and move up faster. The beginner dances are really easy and you'll learn them in no time. If you want to impress the teacher then buy a beginer dance dvd or tape and learn some of the dances of that so you can go into beginer 2. And then there is always the option of private lessons if you want a one on one class and learn faster and the you can go to a school. But you only need to go to a school if you want to compete in feis. Don't worry if the dances seem boring at first they get better.

curiously Irish dancing started as a p**s take of the old sort English dancing that the Irish have been compelled to place up with (alongside with lots else) from their English overlords. that's going to actual stepped forward right into a enormously remarkable dance sort in that's very own precise. The Irish are proud by way of fact in spite of each little thing that has been thrown at them over the centuries they, their usa, their custom and their language have survived. huge respec'!

No, you aren't too old. I started just before I turned 17, now I am in prelim and place at every feis I go to. Other, older people have done it. It might be harder for you though, as the UK is more competitive than my region.
