We are moving from CA to MI and bought a moving truck. Will we be required to stop at weigh stations and what are the weight restrictions?

For the most accurate numbers you should call the US Department of transportation or the state highway patrol. Either of them should be able to tell you exact numbers.

I drive a truck...

The stuff from your house shouldn't weigh anything at all..you shouldn't worry.

go to a truckstop and get the gross vehicle weight. The weight you have to go by will be posted before any scale IF you have to go in at all and will vary from state to state. We usually pay about 8 dollars to weigh. Cheap insurance...do not forget to read the signs. This info if published will be in a truckers atlas for sale at a truckstop, first couple of pages, if u can decipher it. Another 5 to 50 dollars depending on which one you get.

Get some ducktape, tape it to the side of your vehicle up front near the door and write on it the words "non-commercial vehicle, not for hire" if you do get talked to the cops will know you don't know what your doing....

They just wanna know what your doing at the scales, after 911 and oklahoma city, they just wanna know you are not going to bomb something.

The weight limits will vary from state to state, some you will go in and some you wont have to because i dont think you will weigh anywhere near where you have to to go in. Some require even pickups to go in though, so be careful...

BTW, they have fireflys in MI...really neat!

General rule of thumb, most trucks have to weigh at least 10000-12000 pounds to go in. So if you are lighter than that, blow on by and give'm the finger from between your legs...heh heh....

you wont need to stop at any weight stations and dont even worry about the weight unless all your funiture is made of steal and concret . lol but really your house hold goods wont weigh much and sense you are gonna be in a noncommercial truck nobody is gonna weigh you any way . so in short dont worry about they weight and no need to stop at scales ( weigh stations)
1 more thing when you are driving when a semi flashes there lights at you after you pass them it means it is clear to get over and when you get over blink your hazards 2 times to tell him thank you . and when a semi passes you and is clear of your truck flash your lights at him so he knows he is clear .
thank you and have a good trip
