Do they fight that way in real life or is it worse? How can anyone watch something that is predetermined (winner already chosen before match is started). In other words, they take turns winning a bout.

Wrestling is a sport. Yes, the winner is determined before the match, but the wrestlers get to decide how the match will go. They also get hurt, broken arms, ankles, pulled and torn muscles, severe cuts, etc. There have even bees several wrestlers who have sustained broken necks in the ring, and even some killed either as a result of the match or on entry into the ring. Look up Owen Hart for an example of a wrestler killed in the ring and a recent example of an injury sustained can be shown by Bob Holly - he had to have 24 stitches across his back as a result of a cut sustained in the ring. Steve Austin, Lita, Chris Benoit anve all had broken necks as a result of ring injuries. Triple H had to have a muscle in his thigh surgically reattached after it was pulled loose in a match.

It may not be 'real' when it comes to who wins, but the wrestlers can and do sustain real injuries.

I know, I know, but you have to think of it like this. Soap Operas sometimes don't have the whole script worked out, as it is often an organic process. They gage how the world is reacting to certain characters then plots change and morph. I went to a WWF event in Orlando Florida and I must say it was really fun. First off, many of the people that go to these things know how fake it is, but they laugh because they think it's funny. It's so fake and so obvious that it's actually entertaining. On top of it the shows are nuts, they've got fireworks and music, hot rods and motorcycles, chicks in bikini's and sweaty warriors dressed in tights talking an uneccessary amount of trash.

The true question is how can someone watch soap operas and movies and television shows. The key word is entertainment. Think of it this way its fun not great not spectacular but fun. Like in my house hold its a family of 6 and thats one of the things that the kids enjoy is to sit together with me and my wife and watch raw and ppvs. ITs fun and a good bonding time. We know its fake and to think of some of those bumps that they take it does have to take a toll on ones body after awhile.

Yes, its entertainment. What do you think the "E" in WWE stands for? What do you think "ER" and 'Friends" are? They're not actually trying to hurt eachother, but the injuries are real and some of the moves do hurt (bodyslams). Also, wrestling is a a sport because it requires a certain amount of athleticism to put on a good show.

It's the same this as any other tv show. It's scripted. There are writers. Think of it as an action show on tv. You have your good guys and your bad guys and they want to beat each other up. There are story lines and everything. Those are scripts that are predetermined. If you think that's garbage, then pretty much everything else on tv is garbage too.

It is fake, yet what they do is very athletic. It's a show that require hard work to pull off. Really hard work. But I believe the show is detrimental to society, especially for the kids. I would have gone crazy if I would have grown up on that stuff. I would be beating everyone up.
If you want to see something real, try UFC(Ultimate Fighting Championship) on SpikeTV. That is real fighting, and they do fight that way in the streets, if they know how to fight.
If you want to see something really real then look for Pride championship. That's free fighting championship.

holy cow i swear i have never agreed more! last night i answered a question where someone asked why is wwe getting crappier every week. i gave an honest answer that i thought was fair. i got multiple thumbs down and so did everyone else who agreed and said that wrestling was lame, then explained why they thought so. i think wrestling is lame and so is the people who watch and believe it! sometimes when i think about the concept my jaw drops. here was the answer i gave to the question i answered last night

without actually watching it i am certain it's because you're desensitized to it. in other words its the same old stuff over and over and they just can't throw anything new at you to keep your attention.

fair enough, huh? people who watch that are so lame. someone breaks a chair over someone elses head, they get all sweaty, make all kinds of banging noises, scream and squint and yell at each other, spittin in their faces, then people are so surprised when someone wins over another! i don't get it!!!

The outcome to movies and tv shows are predetermined, the fun in watching wrestling is enjoying the athleticism of the wrestlers and the storytelling.

Wrestling is WAY FAKE. The ultimate fighting championships are not fake and I cannot stand to watch it. Sometimes I think they wait too long to end the fight. A person could get killed in there.

It's just a show. Entertainment. You wouldn't want them to really hurt one another would you? Besides, it's actually really hard work and takes a lot of effort to wrestle like that and not get hurt.
I don't like it either, but it is a form of entertainment. Lots of people like it and that's good enough for me.
I like bowling. Some people don't like that at all.
