Hi,
I am assuming you mean an elevated prolactin level. This is a hormone released by the pituitary gland - which stimulated breast development and milk production. Elevated prolactin levels are common during and after pregnancy - as this is when a woman will want to have milk for breast feeding. An elevated prolactin - not associated with pregnancy MAY be due to a problem of the pituitary gland - such as a prolactinoma - a very small tumor which stimulates the gland to produce this hormone. As you did not provide more information, I would suggest that your wife seek her physician's opinion - if she is not pregnant - she should be referred to an endocrinologist for blood work and further eval (CT scan or MRI to detect any pituitary abnormality).
As I said, without more information, there is not much more I can tell you . hope this helps.
