I purchased a mandolin online. It is the type that looks like a melon in the back. It was dated back in the 1900's. I can't believe the weight on this mandolin. I bet it is barely a half of a pound. Does this sound right for mandolins of this age?

Yes I am sure it is not plastic..lol. The back of the (bowl) is made of some sort of strips, or bands. As you can tell I don't know to much about these kinds..lol.
