Assuming you have Windows XP, you'll need to restart the computer in safe mode (press F8 continuously just before the windows logo appears), go in the control panel, (in classic view) open system, go on the hardware tab, click device manager.
Delete all entries containing a yellow exclamation and then reinstall all drivers that came with your motherboard.

USB Root Hub??
What have you installed recently?
Whatever it is, remove it...
If you "press any key", does the computer boot normally?
At a guess, you're recently added a piece of USB hardware, and not installed the drivers properly
Try reverting to the restore point you set before the installation. (What do you mean, "what restore point?" ??)
