You need to find something to do to keep your mind active. I have this problem as well. I'll sit and dwell on things for way too long. It's not a healthy way to deal with things. Thinking is alright, too much thinking is not good. Maybe try writing down your feelings in a journal and then move on and find something else to do. It can be a difficult habit to break, but by spending time writing down your thoughts and feelings, you're turning you're at least turning your thoughts into something physical. Also, it helps if you can find someone to talk to about your problems. That's what I've done and it helps a lot to just to turn the thoughts into words and get them out. Also, just start being more active... exercise or get out and do something with your friends. Spend your time living and not thinking!

You may want to consider actually calmly allowing yourself to dwell on these thoughts. If your mind drifts to them, don't try to push them away quickly or hysterically. Pushing thoughts away in that manner is called thought suppression, and it may actually make matters worse, like for obsessive compulsive people. It's like when I tell you to stop thinking of the color red. Can't stop thinking of red now, can you?
Instead, you may want to analyze these thoughts with a calm and analytical perspective, in a way distance your SELF from them without actually TRYING to push them away. Is there any use to think these thoughts right now? If so, how can you learn from or act on them, for the moment? What made you think of this issue? Can you think of it in funny or silly ways? Etcetera. Eventually, your mind may wander to other things or you'd get bored of the monotony of thinking of these issues. You may even try to talk these out with someone you get along with, or write about them, if you have the patience to. Engaging in physical or social activities and games to distract you definitely helps also.

P.S. It's actually not advisable to actually STOP dwelling on thoughts once in a while. Haha.

That's a good question. That happens to me, too. When I can't deal with the issue on my own, I try to talk it out with someone I know. If no one is around, I write in my journal. It's a great release.

Find yourself a quiet place, close your eyes and work on removing every thought from your mind. If a thought comes in, push it back out. Relax and do this until your mind stays clear. It is a great discipline to practice.
