We are going to a course dining resturant for the second time and we want to become regulars there. It is the only course resturant available for at least 100 miles and I don't wanna blow it. The first time we went there our bill was 90.00 and some change for 2 and we left an even 120.00. We are going back and I need to know if that was fair and if I should tip more. We were the only ones in the resturant - reservations only, one couple per night, fine bone china dining and served by a chef and a food stylist. really fancy, how much do I tip???? Please Help!!!!!!!

Although I have never heard of a fine dining restaurant only serving one couple per night it sounds like you tipped efficiently assuming you took in consideration of all the people that were catering to you and that your 30 dollars would be split among them. I would just say use your best judgment, if you used this room and the service for say a 2 hour dinner with 3 people waiting on you, you paid them 10 bucks each for 5 dollars an hour. Thinking about that it doesn't seem like a lot if you took longer time and if you were eating on fine china, and the wait service is exceptional. 5 dollars if they are just catering you an hour is not a lot.

Fast food joints, never. They work strickly by the hour. However, other restaurants always, and usually 10-15%. As someone explained above, it ain't fair, but the gov does make servers pay, tip or no tip. Besides, if you go to the same place a lot, you get a reputation for tipping and your order will always be right and on time.

In the USA as a general rule of thumb you should always pay 15 percent unless the service was horrible, then you don't need to tip. However, if you had great service, you should probably pay up to 20 percent. And although very rare if you had the best of the best service then shoot for 30 to 35 percent. Hope this helps

From what you described, I would recommend a minimum of 25-30%. Just remember, the tip is going to be distributed amongst the waitstaff. We recently were at a fine restaurant and we had a team of 3 servers, plus the water person, the bread person and the wine guy.

I used to work for one of the top restraunts in Maryland. It sounds like you did fine. For a place like that 20% would be minimum, but if everything went wonderfully, then 30% is of course acceptable.

It's 15 % in Canada but that is if your satisfied with the meal and the Waiter. Do what you think and sometimes I would go a little more if the Waiter was doing extra things.

I would think 25-30 % is appropriate and if you are still unsure you can always ask the matradee.
