If I have Road Runner as an ISP... if I buy another cable modem will it work?I?

I need to set up my wireless router on it because for some reason when my stepmother works from home the VPN Client she uses causes problems with the wireless internet access.

It *should* work. I have had the same cable modem for years and I have used it with both Comcast High Speed Internet as well as Cablevision's IO Digital (or whatever it is they call their service).
