In sense, it could be true. Linebackers are the probably the most important. They defend the run and the pass in a blink of an eye. They are fast like running backs, and have great senses. It's all how you look at the game really...

What? A linebacker does that; backs up the defensive line.
There isn't anything that is comparable to a running back on the defense. Unless, of course, a fumble occurs.

There's no such thing as a "defensive RUNNING back", but you could consider him a "back" as long as he's NOT lined up on the line of scrimmage when the ball is snapped because then he'd be considered a lineman.

the purpose of a linebacker is to assist the offense with holding back the opposing teams defence so they can gain yardage to put the ball in the endzone....so I would say yes you are correct :)
