Nope. I don't thinks so...i know so.

a Running Back carries the ball on offense only.

Linebackers hold the second line of defense.

In sense, it could be true. Linebackers are the probably the most important. They defend the run and the pass in a blink of an eye. They are fast like running backs, and have great senses. It's all how you look at the game really...

What? A linebacker does that; backs up the defensive line.

There isn't anything that is comparable to a running back on the defense. Unless, of course, a fumble occurs.

There's no such thing as a "defensive RUNNING back", but you could consider him a "back" as long as he's NOT lined up on the line of scrimmage when the ball is snapped because then he'd be considered a lineman.

the purpose of a linebacker is to assist the offense with holding back the opposing teams defence so they can gain yardage to put the ball in the endzone....so I would say yes you are correct :)
