I was eating frozen yogurt with a friend near Battery Park. The car alarms started going off and the ground was undulating and she grabbed my arm and pulled me out from under the brick overhang. I couldn't go into my office to get my stuff because they police told us it wasn't safe. We rode on her Vespa to her house where I spent the night, and aftershocks shook the building the entire night. The next morning was my birthday, and she brought out a peeled banana with a candle stuck in it. She was a good friend and that was a tough night. I'm assuming that you were talking about that day in SAN FRANCISCO?

Probably smoking a cigarette at some back ally in a small town after high school or at having coffee & smoking, or playing video games at a game center & smoking or smoking pot some disclosed location without my parents knowing about it and getting in trouble for it. That night slept in own bed alone. Was Oct. 17, 1989 on a week day or weekend? Don't remember.

If I recall correctly, I was shaking in a Standard Brands Paint Store in Stockton, CA, as a result of the Loma Prieta earthquake that wrecked large sections of the Bay Area, and stopped the World Series.
I slept in my usual bed, over 100 miles away from the epicenter.

I was watching the World Series begin with the Giants in the running in San Francisco. I lived in southern CA at the time. For those that don't remember this was the time and date of the Loma Prieta earthquake in CA. I think something like 63 people died. The famous Nimitz freeway collasped killing most of the people that were lost. The bay bridge which goes from Oakland to San Francisco broke apart on the top deck, a few cars that were going one way ended up on the lower deck heading the opposite direction. Fires broke out. The Pacific Garden Mall in downtown Santa Cruz was destroyed. Members of my family were at the World Series game that day. They watched the concrete seats wave with each aftershock. It was horrific. I lived through the Northridge quake of 1994, I worked nearly over the epicenter, we had after shocks for weeks.
