Praetus is the king of Argos in the Iliad of Homer, and Virgil mentions the daughters of Praetus being cured of their melancholy in his Georgics. Other than that I am not aware of any other source. It is not a word in Latin, even though it looks like one. So as far as I can tell it is a Greek name.
