changing a 1.05gb file to a 100mb file really just aint gonna work.

1.05gb is about ten times larger than 100mb and that kind of compression just doesn't exist in the real world - unless it's a video or audio file in which case you could re-encode it but the quality would be decreased so much it would not be nice to view.

1.05 GB is about 10 times the size of a 100 MB file. as in, 100 MB is only %10 the size of a 1 GB file. There is no known method of compression that i know of that has a %90 compression ratio that you would need. The only way you will ever get that 1 GB file down to 100 MB would be to remove some data from it (the proceedure varies with every file type), as in about %90 of the data. if you can get the original file down to 500 MB or so by removing information from it, the you might be able to compress it down to 100 MB. In short, you are kinda screwed. unless you can split the file into several files, and then use a program such as WinAce to compress those files, then toss all those files into a folder.

1.05 GB > 100 MB
there are 1024 MB in one GB

And to make a file smaller you need a way to compress the information or you can clip off information. Depending on the type of file, you can compress it down to a smaller size than others.

To compress a file to 10% it's size is HIGHLY unplausible. To do so takes either one awesome compressor or a lot of clipping.

Hiyas:

Each 1(GB) gig represents 1024(MB) megabyte. If a file is needing to be "compressed" I'd suggest using a very friendly tool such as Winzip, available at: www.winzip.com. Good luck!

What KIND of file? You can try compressing it with a program like Winzip, but you won't save THAT much space. You might have to split it into parts.

1.00 GB = 10 times 100 megabytes.

:) Your question is as vague as could be.

1 GB = 1024 MB
1.05GB = 1075.2 MB

So, 100MB is nothing compared to 1.05GB, and why would you want to change a file to 100MB? from what size?
