i would love to start irish dancing im 18 and i know its quite old to start i would like to know is there any point considering my age

I'm no Irish Dancing teacher, but there's no reason you can't learn to dance.
You don't say where you are, but in Ireland anyway, there are plenty of adult Irish Dancing classes.

You should try "Set" Dancing - the steps are not technical, it's a matter of remembering the figures in each part of the set, and that's not a problem as long as one of eight in the set know them, there's a huge social side to it, and it's great exercise! Set Dancing is also becoming very popular, with plenty of beginner's classes around.
