Do the members of congress represent a cross section of the American people?Why or why not?Describe the typical member.

Since they were nominated by a cross section of the American people it would only be logical that they represent exactly that.

In most cases, the representatives from the East and West coasts represent the looney lefties from the Secular Progressive movement, and those from the Heartland represent the type of level-headed thinking that formed this Country to begin with. Maybe it's because the coasties come into contact with the failures produced by the European surrender monkies on the East Coast and the West is heavily influenced by the people in the entertainment industry who believe that, because they make fabulous sums of money by pretending to be something that they most definately are not, they are smarter that the rest of us. The exception would be Florida because we are the destination for so many retired baby boomers that a lot of influence here comes from the Heartland. That's only my opinion, but I think I'm on to something.

*makes considerably more than the mean income for the US
*is a caucasian male
*is a lawyer by training
*has not served in any branch of the armed forces
*does not have a son or daughter serving in the armed forces
*is heavily beholden to lobbyists for financial support
*is heavily courted by lobbyists with gifts & money for political support
*is an incumbent
*is not an independent or member of a third party
*has a job in politics, works in Washington
*has an excellent pension - far superior to Social Security
*has an excellent health care plan - far superior to Medicare
*can vote himself a raise
