US used to be a lot wealthier than the rest of the world. Now the rest of the world is catching up. Not only can some of these countries feed their athletes better, they can even afford better facility and equipment. That helps them train better, making US losing the edge in the field of advanced sports facility/equipment/technology.

The US spent so much time thinking they were on top, we got idle and lazy as a whole. Other countries gained the edge and we have not gotten ours back yet. Also some countries define themselves by thier internationaly known sports teams and therefore financially support them more than the US supports our international teams.

The U.S. may have better individual athletes, but the ones from other countries have a better understanding of teamwork.

because all the superstars like in basketball choose not to play, plus the european teams train all year(s) TOGETHER while the US basketball trains together for 4 weeks maybe
