I have a forced air gas furnace in the house we bought last month. Turned it on about a two weeks ago was working fine, today the furnace will come on but sometimes puts out cold air other times works fine. The thermastat is digital and sometimes just goes blank, seems to lose power. I have it set at 70 but it will be 66 before the furnace comes on. Any ideas?

my idea is to get professional help. you don't want to mess with something that can either blow your house up or kill you in your sleep. I hate digital thermostats by the way.

If thermostat has batteries make sure they are in all the way. Other than that you should call a heating and cooling company to look at it. Some of the advice I read above could result in you shorting out your circuit board and costing much more than a service call. When is the last time you filter was changed it could cause the furnace to shut down on over temp. Good Luck

Check the tolerance of the thermostat. it could be set at low which would allow a 10 degree difference before it turns on. High would allow only a couple degrees difference before it turns on. Also try to change the batteries in the thermostat. This should help it from going blank.

Make sure the wiring in the thermostat is secure. By secure I mean, if a wire "looks" like its firmly in the slot which its supposed to be in, it may not make contact or the cutter that allows the wire to be exposed hasnt quite cut through the wire. If you see any wires not all the way down (in the thermostate), simply push them with a small screw driver or knife.

If that doesnt work and same problem persists, you may have a bad thermostat.

Finally, if your system was installed with the digital thermostat...just have the installer come back and do a wire check.

If under warranty call them. If not call for in a pro repair service. The cheapest in the long run. Winter is just around the corner.

What kind of t-stat is this? Would it have a battery in it supplying power?
