My husband and I are planning our 2 year anniversary trip there, and we're interested in somewhere romantic, but not overrated.

I don't know a place in Europe that's over-rated. Paris and Rome have their reputations for good reason. They're romantic, expensive and crowded.

Austria is very romantic and not overcrowded. Salzburg is walkable and has Sound of Music and Mozart (music for every taste). The lakes east of Salzburg are wonderful settings. You can sit by the lake and have snow-covered mountains in the background (depends on the time of year). Vienna is a major city with lots of history and things to do (concerts, shopping, etc). You can take a Danube cruise from there too.

There are places to hike/ski/bike if you're the outdoors types.

Because Austria uses the euro, it's expensive compared to the dollar, but not nearly as expensive as Paris or Rome.

WELL, WESTERN EUROPE IS SSOOOOOOOOO EXPANSIVE BECAUSE OF YOUR PAREE, OR PARIS.ROMA,OR ROME, BARCELONA, THESE CITIES WERE WESTERNIZED FOREVER. NOW, TRY THE EASTERN PART OF EUROPE, THAT FOR MANY YEARS WE COULD NOT VISIT, BECAUSE OF THE COMMUNIST GOVERNMENT. IF YOU GO TO THE EASTERN EUROPEAN COUNTRIES, YOU WILL DISCOVER SUCH RICH HISTORY OF THAT PART OF THE WORLD, THAT HAD INFLUENCE ON THE NEW WORLD, MEANING (THE AMERICAS). IT IS ALL BEAUTIFUL PART OF THE WORLD, RICH IN CULTURE AND HISTOEY, AND THE PEOPLE ARE BEAUTIFUL. ALSO IN CITIES LIKE PRAGUE, WARSAW, VILNO, KIEV MOSCOW, KRAKOW, LODZ,GDANSK.,ETC ,PRICES ARE A LOT CHEAPER THAN IN THE WESTERN EUROPE. YOUR DOLLAR GOES FURTHER.
POLAND AND OTHER EASTERN EUROPEAN COUNTRIES OFFER A LOT OF ROMANTIC PLACES, WEATHER IN THE MOUNTAINS, OR THE BALTIC SEA, OR THE NORTHERN LAKE REGIOON, YOU ALWAYS CAN FIND SOMETHING VERY ROMANTIC. ( BY THE WAY MOST PEOPLE SPEAK ENGLISH IN THOSE COUNTRIES)

I lived in Germany for four years, my father was military, and I totally loved it there. I want to go back one day!:) Let's see, besides Kaiserslautern, I went to Bern, Switzerland that was neat, they have bear pits there. Very interesting. I really liked Paris, went there twice. Loved the Louvre. All the art. I liked London but my favorite thing in Europe is all the countryside and of course the yummy food. I do miss European food. Went to Holland, that was neat, went to the beach. I liked Brussels too. Found the best Italian restaurant there of all places. Please, please whatever you do, don't eat at McDonald's in Europe!!!

Try a cruise The Danube Delta in Romania. It's perfect... the landscape is fabulous, wild, the food is great and the people are nice. And it's also cheap.
