When you have a baby that cries for no apparent reason, everyone automatically labels it "colic." But colic is a condition where the baby cries incessantly, ALL THE TIME and NOTHING can soothe her. Bear in mind your daughter is 2 weeks old...the world is new for her...they say the 1st 4-5 weeks outside the womb is like another trimester...she is adapting to new sounds, smells, feelings, and her little body is digesting milk/formula for the first time...this is all somewhat uncomfortable for her...be patient! In the meantime, burp her (you can try gripe water which is a natural gas reducer,) swaddle her tightly, hold her to your skin, sing, talk, soothe her with your voice, take her for a walk in the stroller, try a pacifier if you're desperate...it WILL get better. If you are really concerned, check w/ your pediatrician, but it sounds like it's just normal new baby behavior.Good luck!

There are a couple of intriguing things they found out studying colicky babies. First is, there really isn't anything wrong with them. Distressed babies show increased levels of stress hormones and so forth, but colicky babies don't. I don't think they even showed increased blood pressure or heart rates, certainly not the level you'd expect if they were actually distressed. Oh, just a bit just from the exercise of screaming. The second thing is that they've found colicky babies survive better, especially in developing countries where the babies need every extra bit of an edge they can get. So a recent thought is that this may be a survival behavior designed to get extra attention, and it works.
This, of course, does nothing for the blood pressure and anxiety levels of the parents that have to deal with them. But you're not a bad parent if you just let the baby cry. As long as the baby is fed, not thirsty and the diaper is dry, you've done what you can. I've heard what the old timers around here had to say about it, and they figured the baby just needed that crying for exercise. They didn't beat themselves up over it, and their babies grew up just fine.
Oh, and I do have to add this: My late wife laughed at me when I bought pistol muffs (hearing protectors used at the shooting range) because of the baby. I had the last laugh. It was a delightful "How-did-you-know?" moment. Well, I just did. Go to a gun shop and buy a pair, they'll help preserve your sanity. Just be careful when you throw the baby up on your shoulder because he/she will whack the muff on that side and start crying again.

My son was colic and he cried all the time, not just a specific time. But Im not sure what the norm is so you should check with a doc or read about it online and see if she has the symptoms of a colic baby

Colic usually occurs arround the same time everyday. Nothing seems to sooth the baby. I feel for you. I know how fustrating colic can be. Try walking with her. Switch off with the dad or another person whos arround to help you.

my son had the same problem untill he was about 2 1/2 months old. every evening around 7 he would start crying and continue for about 2 hours. usually when i took him outside and walked with him he would calm down untill i got tired then it would start all over again. they tried switching him to soy which made him spit up, eventually we went to lactose free and it helped ALOT! also stock up on gas drops, they also make colic tablets that help alot. as hard as it seems you may just have to wait it out, it will end eventually. just try to get some help from family or even lay her down and let her cry while you get a breath of air to calm down, lord knows it can drive you crazy sometimes--good luck

It sounds like it could be colic but go to WebMD and do a search for colic. There is a lot of info there to help you.

It could be colic or trapped gas. Try Mylacon from the drig store and if it continues, believe it or not when you finally think you can't handle it anymore, it'll ease up' Good luck

My advice is ...if you're on a milk based formula, try switching to soy. A lot of babies are allergic to milk (just think...it's a cow). Mylecon drops do help with gas. Many babies have irritable stomachs and the gas can make them irritable.
