Reflexology is a very good complementary treatment for depression. This is a special pressure technique applied to the feet. The body is divided into 10 zones or energy channels, running the length of the body from the head to the feet. There are five zones located on each foot, and within these are reflex points which correspond to the organs and structures of the body. Toxins can build up around these energy points, causing blockages of the energy pathways and when this happens, disorders and disease can occur.

When reflexology is used, the primary aim is to enhance the energy flow in the body by breaking down the blockages of waste, encouraging all the body’s systems to work in harmony.

By concentrating on specific reflex points, in your case the pituitary gland, solar plexus, adrenals and relaxation sequences, depression can be well managed.

The truth is sometimes you can't. Depends on if the depression is caused by your brain not making enough of the right chemicals. Then you have to take medication. But depression can be caused by other things like low thyroid. Have you seen your doctor and been checked out? Exercise and faith in Jesus have helped me cope a lot, but I still have to take some medication although a much lower dose than I ever have. I have also had counseling and have learned to break a downward spiral in my thought patterns too. Hey, don't mess around or feel ashamed of having depression. There is no reason to feel that way unless its short term like in the loss of a loved one or something like that. Hope this helps.

What can I say about that? Notice my nickname? I have suffered my entire life with bipolar disorder and I still don't have any concrete answers for you. But, what I do know for myself is that no pharmaceuticals ever did anything for me. I did find that taking a few (actually many) natural supplements seemed to make me feel much more level. I regularily take a balanced essential fatty acid supplement, B complex, Vitamin C, Zinc, L-tyrosine, etc.

Exercise is key. I know when you're unmotivated that's maybe the last thing you want to hear, but unfortunately it's true. Meditation, if you can. Homeopathy, if you can afford it.

I think life circumstance plays a big role and learning how to really take care of yourself and knowing that you deserve it is a significant piece of the puzzle. Personal life coaching was benefical to me at one point because it inspired me to focus on myself to determine what was really important to ME, not everyone else around me. I hope that was of some help. Don't be afraid to get help, there are people who truly understand.

If you mean without 'conventional' medication, St. John's Wort is effective as an alternative. Or you could try aromatherapy etc (only if you mean 'depression' in the sense of just feeling a bit down, if you have serious depressive/suicidal thoughts a doctor's advice is crucial) Get your friends and family to support you when you're down, so you won't be alone. Having someone to talk to is so important, a counsellor/psychologist may be useful.

You could try St. John's Wort (Hypericum) from a health food shop or similar. However, this is not good if you have high blood pressure.
Other than that (or as well), you could go to a psychologist or counsellor or hypnotherapist.
Exercise can be really helpful and, of course, your friends and family plus various interests. However, if you are really depressed sometimes you can't appreciate your friends or interests you once had. Get help as soon as poss.

there is no fool proof way of unsuring happiness!! if there was nobady would ever need sedatives. but the key to being happy is organisation of your life.

if you feel lost and unhappy due to money etc. its a large scale organisation effort needed if it is general feeling of emptyness then another approch is needed. when your depressed you dont want to deal with anything, but by taking charge in small ways you can make a big difference its not a majorly quick thing but it does work and did for me.

also taking time to think about what you want from life. it maybe just normality, a level head, a smile. but untill you know what you want how can you achive it and be happy.

take up relaxation methods such as yoga, or going to a quiet place or for a walk in the park.

everytime you think god this cant get worse just smile...i know i sound like iam totally stupid and that is what you want to achive but really try it. by even pulling the weirdest smile in the world it releases chemicals which stimulate the happy endorphines in the body making you want to smile more often. over a period of time you wont even think about smiling....it will just happen.

i know iam no leading body in the psyclogy field, but i do know that being a person with bi polar tendencies its how i get by from day to day. its the only way i get a balance...and for me it works iam still as "normal"(what ever that is!) as chocolate carrots but iam still smiling... ; )

seriously increase the amount of omega-3 fatty acids in your diet, i know it sounds like it cant be that simple but an increase in omega-3's and excercise can seriously defeat depression

in my experience there is no need for depression drugs, they are dangerous and the natural way to deal with the problem is much more effective anyway
