I'm going to avoid food (since it is made from plant and animal matter, and contains a large number of elements), I will stick with "products". And I assume you want "pure" elements (not compounds).

1. Helium is used in balloons.
2. Smoke detectors contain a small piece of americium in them (it provides the ionized air which smoke disturbs to cause the alarm to sound)
3. Aluminum in aluminum cans
4. Gold is used in jewelry, coins, etc.
5. Silver, ditto for gold
6. Copper is used in electrical wiring
7. Mercury was used in thermometers (most are now alcohol)
8. Europium is used in television picture tubes (it gives the red color)
9. Uranium was once used in dental porcelin (it provided luminescene, which had no relation to its radioactivity, it's now no longer used) and also provided the orange-red dye in Fiestaware.
10. Carbon is the "lead" in pencil lead (in the form of graphite), it is also found in jewelry in crystal form: diamond
11. Lead is used in car batteries
12. Oxygen is used for medical purposes (and is considered a drug); it is also used with acetylene in welding.
13. Chlroine is used to purify water (both for drinking and swimming)
14. Neon is used in neon lights, along with other "noble" gases such as krypton and argon
15. Phosphorus is used in match heads.

Hydrogen and Oxygen make up water and your seventy percent water so that's everyday. Also you breathe Oxygen fromt he air which is actually mostly Nitrogen. There's also Cabon Dioxide in the air which animals and people exale. So there's Carbon. You're also made of Carbon. All organic material contains Carbon. Your bones are made of Calcium which you replenish by drinking milk. Other minerals that are elements which are in food include Iron, Zinc and Sulfur. Sulfur is found in matches. Tungsten is the filiment in most incandecent light bulbs. Sodium and Chlorine make up table salt. planes trains and automobiles are made of steel and Aluminum. Steel gives you iron and carbon again. Concrete things are made partially of sand so there's Silicone. That's also in the chips in your computer. If you play baseball you might have a Titanium bat. Penny's are made of copper. Other coins are made of Silver or Gold. CSomewhere you've been is powered by nuclear power so there's Uranium. The next time you go driving watch the signs in buildings and you'll probably see a Neon sign. Helium balloons are fun.

I believe this is kind of a moral debate question. I have thought the same since I went vegetarian a few years ago, when a friend told me how if I am doing it for the suffering, well, everything is Alive so everything would suffer. Every living being, even plants themselves feed off something. I don't think anything ever really dies, it just transforms. Plants, we eat them alive, mushrooms are still alive, vegetables are still alive. Why do you think we can feed off things? The more natural and unprocessed they are the more energy we get. Why do you think so? Our bodies take the energy from the things we eat, because they are alive. We don't hear plants screaming or suffering, even though the fact they get burned at times, or damaged could be equaled to them suffering because they are dying. Animals scream, they get scared, they suffer. I believe it is normal for every being to go through suffering when something is not so appealing. Many people unfortunately, do not respect life as it is nowadays. That's why they kill anything excessively, carelessly... there's no conscience or awareness that life is everywhere, and it is to be respected, we are part of it! This discussion could go on forever, that is why I say that it is a debate that relies on the morals of each individual. I am a vegan now because it is my desicion to not consume things that involve or imply somehow animals going through what they do when they do not have to. I've eaten salmon thrice since I became vegan, which was recent. I have done it aware of what they go through to get to my plate, which hurts a little lot. I thank them lots, they know, but, I still know how awful it must be to stop breathing... still hurts, which is why I haven't eaten anymore lately. Death is part of Life, whether we accept it or not, but I believe it shouldn't be controlled by humans when someone or something dies, not even ants!! Even if I believe God is in us, it's still very hard for me to accept how stupidly influencial humankind thinks they are... I hate that humans can manipulate what goes on around them, I feel as if it should be nature who does that, not us. Anyhow, great question. Again, moral debate. Peace out and In! By the way, to the dude below me: WATER IS ALIVE!!!!! Do you think that for things to be alive they need to have eyes or ears, or a freaking nervious system!!?? How do you think something can REVIVE even at an almost-dying fase if it consumes water!!?? Ugh! Have your own criteria dude and be more informed.
