This was a good site I came across... my experience with gnats is that they like warm moist environments. I hate to say this but I used to pour just a little bleach down the drain...but I think that is not safe due to the toxic fumes and potential of the bleach mixing with other chemicals and causing a chlorine gas. So exercise caution and use your discretion. But check out this site for some more tips.

Get a bug bomb from a L&G center or hardware store. Follow the directions and set one off in the room where the gnats are. It'll kill all of them. Then you can clean up to your satisfaction and get back to living.
