There is nothing really affordable in San Francisco. A friend shares a two-bedroom apartment around Geary and 25th Ave; the monthly rent is $1500. Another friend pays $750-a-month for a bachelor in San Bruno - on the BART line, near the airport.

Most neighborhoods in SF are reasonably safe. I can tell you where you might want to avoid though. Downtown is not the best place to live, more specifiaclly the tenderloin. The south east part of the city is more industrial and has some sketchy places. Protrero Hill and parts of the mission are pretty sketchy too. The Richmond and The Sunset Districts are very low crime, neighborhoody and a little more reasonable than say the marina(very safe) as far as price is concerned. Hope that helps.

San Francisco is extremely safe for a girl, being that all the so-called males like other males, so they ignore the women. However, the rent may be something else entirely.

move to the East Bay. there is no place in the city which is even remotely affordable, unless you have 10 roommates.
