It depends on what you need to install on each of those systems. If your purpose is to install as many OSs as possible, then you could probably manage to install 20 of them.

I've installed maybe a dozen different OSs over time but I wouldn't go through that trouble for absolutely nothing.

If you are not familiar with multi-boot systems, prepare yourself well (check documentation), the order in which you install the operating systems can make a huge difference. There is also another possible complication which is that some BIOSs/OSs are not able to bootstrap more than 1024 sectors, so you'll have to create small boot partitions at the beginning of the drive for each system if that's the case.

If you are not going to be installing other applications, or storing any data you should be able to fit quite a few.

You will need to create a separate partition for each Operating System.

The space required will vary depending on the OS you are looking to install.

At least two operating systems with 20Gb each partition. Minimum space capacity to operate at least 1GB. Programs are the ones who limits the operation of the computer, taking space in your hard disk. My Dell Latitude D800 have a 20GB hard disk with a lot of programs and runs without problems. So, if you have a computer with two partitions in a 40GB disk, it should run smoothly without problems.

Most OSes will run on less than 2 gig, how well and what programs you can install into them will be a big question though.

Sooooo . . . In theory, you could put 20, maybe more depending on the OS. (DOS takes .5-2 megs depending on which version)
