two players in the Tiger's system to watch for (amongst several pretty good prospects)

P Andrew Miller, who had a cup of coffee in the bigs after being drafted in the first roundthis past June.. He's got some wicked stuff that could have Bonderman as our fourth or fifth starter by 2008..

And Cameron Maybin, another first rounder from 2005.. a center fielder that will likely push Granderson to left or right.. He has been touted by many scouts as a better version of Ken Griffey JR.. from what I have read and seen at West Michigan, he reminds me a bit of Bo Jackson.. by the time he reaches his prime, he should be a consistant 30 homer 30 stolen base guy.. this year he batted over 304.. stolen 27 bases and nine homers, made one error in center field, had 50 walks in just under 400 ABs.. but did strike out more than 100 times.. He'll start 2007 in Erie.. and should be up with the club by no later than Septemeber 2007, barring injury..

Another factor, obviously, is what moves the Tigers make in the off season, unlike 2003, where they were forced to make moves, now, they can be alot more selective in what they do.. 1st base is probabaly the biggest 'hole' the Tigers have going into 2007.. everything else is pretty solid, but could be upgraded, if the price is right..

Here is the key to their team - their pitching should get better. At the beginning of the season, they had Mike Maroth in the starting rotation who was, I believe 5-2 with an ERA around 3 before getting hurt. So he will be back full throttle next season.

They also have some youngsters that they will be looking to move up next year or in '08: Andrew Miller (1st round pick this season, played when they expanded roster to 40 in September); Humberto Sanchez, Kyle Sleeth, and Jordan Tata. They also have some good young hitters in Brent Clevelen, Kody Kirkland, and Cameron Maybin that should see some playing time next season as well.

While one of the biggest motivators (if/when they win it all) of very few of the players having ever won the World Series (I believe Pudge is the only one) could be gone next season, I would still expect the Tigers to make the playoffs next season as they definitely have the pitching to endure with Bonderman, Verlander, Rogers and Company returning next season.

Even better than this year... with the young guys getting the playoff experience and pulling together and playing team ball all year and learning what it takes to shut down the Yanks in 4... If Leyland stays, so will the winning ways.. He is the Yoda of baseball..

We have the toughest division to play.. White Sox, Twins, Indians.. then Yanks & Red Sox.. NL teams wouldn't last in our division. So the Tigers will be in a dog fight all year next year, but I think they'll have great success.... possibly going over 100 wins.

Cameron Maybin is a fast dude! He can steal bases like crazy and in the outfield he's all over the ball.. they refused Soriano to keep Maybin if that gives you any clue to how good this kid is..

If they can keep the players they have now happy and healthy, then they will do well.

I don't think anyone would ever make a prediction at the end of the 2005 season that the Tigers would be the winning-est team in baseball and have the best pitching. But look at them now :^)

since the team didn't win with tons of people having career years (like the 2005 White Sox), I would say we won't know how good the 2007 Tigers will be until we see what roster moves they make in the offseason (who they lose, who they gain, etc).

About the same. They aren't going to lose anyone important and
will just have to fight it out with the Twins & Indians next year.
