How dilated do you have to be in order to lose your mucus plug? I am 1cm and I havent lost mine, at least that I am aware of. Also can you lose it in bits? I have a lot more discharge but the doc. said its my body producing it to make labor easier for the baby to slip out. Lastly after you lose your mucus plug can you continue to have sex? Thanks for all your help!

Just trying to help you a little with your question. I don't know if it's a set number on the dilation before you lose your mucous plug. I didn't even know that I lost mine. My water broke when I was dilated to a 1... so anything is possible. Yes it is okay to still have sexual intercourse after you lose your mucous plug. Check with your doctor before you have it of course.. but when I was pregnant.. I don't remember anything about her telling me not to have sex after losing the plug... she had to tell me that I had already lost my mucous plug.. I didn't even know it. Anyways.. back to the sex thing. The night before my water broke... my husband and I made love... my doctor just told me that I could have sex as long as it didn't get uncomfortable for me... If you feal uncomfortable having it.. physically... then I wouldn't recommend it. Check with your doc though... If I was you... I would check with my doc before I did anything I wasn't sure about. Just to be on the safe side. Don't get me wrong... these yahoo answer things are cool... But when it comes to the life of your baby.... I'm sure you know that though... I'll quit being all mommy and stuff. LOL.. take care.. good luck with the pregnancy... God Bless!

You can be dialated and not lost your mucus plus. I was 3cm when I was induced and never lost my mucus plug. Yes you can lose it in bits. And yes you can have sex after you lose it. These are all questions I went over with my Dr during my pregnancy.

Generally somewhere between 2 and 4 cm. And you can lose it in bits or pretty much all at once.

I really don't know if it's safe to have sex. Probably, but it will likely bring on labor.

You don't have to be dialated at all. Yes you can lose it in bits. Sure can continue to have sex up until your water breaks. As long as you and your partner are comfortable and the doc says it's ok.

You can lose your plug at anytime. You do not have to be dialated to a certain point.Yes you can lose it in bits.It will have a redish brown or pinkish color to it.Having sex, taking a bath(shower ok)or swimming after you dialate should be avoided. It`s a good way to get a infection and possibly the baby will get the infection too.
