It all depends of your situation: I use my English every day for work and also communicating with pretty much everybody around me. Granted, the importance of English worldwide is often greatly exaggerated: If I didn't speak English, I guess I would just have a different job and maybe live in a different part of the country or different part of the world, but I can't help but think that I would somehow lose out on something.

Actually english is my third language, but since I now live and work in an english speaking country I use it more often than the other 2 more fluent ones.
Although I speak perfect english, I am still more comfortable speaking my mother tongue.
