Well, if I remember correctly, this was when Martin Luther broke off, right? Well, it affected the Church because this was one of the first major revolts, if you will, to the Catholic Church. Sure, we have early persecution for a few hundred years after Christ's death and ressurection, but Luther started something huge. Due to his upheavel, you have the entire Protestant Church today.

That's all I'm going to give you though because one, this looks like an essay question, and two, I'd have to look stuff up in order to answer the rest.
