It's the same principal as lightning and thunder. You'll always see the lightning before you hear the thunder... unless you're unfortunately too close and they occur at the same time, in which case BOOM you're unconsious or dead.
It has to do with the speed of light being much faster than the speed of sound.

You actually answered your own question. It is because light travels faster than the speed of sound. Same with lightning, I'm sure you've been in a thunderstorm before, and you have seen the lightning, and then heard the thunder after? Same thing. Good enough? Look up the actual numbers for speeds of sound, and light.

Because light travels faster than sound. You see the gun going off and the smoke a split second before the sound reaches you.

because the gun goes off and produces smoke but it takes a short time before the sound can get to you but you see it right away. hope it helps
