i have an xbox system that i don't play anymore. Do i just bring it back to ebgames for store credit, do i need the box that it came in with? Finally, when you give it back to ebgames do they check to c if it works or not?

you trade your games in EBgames and they give you a card which stores your credit information. You can then use that card to pay for other goods in EBgames. One advantage about trading in games is that when you pay with your trade in credit you dont have to pay tax. However you do not get a lot of credit for your games. Usually you will get 4 or 5 bucks.(more if the game is very new) Yes you could use the trade in credit to buy a console or pay part of the prics in trade in credit. You could also buy used consoles which cost less.

No, you do not need a box, and they test it after you trade it in afaik.

You don't need the box, as they have their own.

But they will probably test it.
