Guinea pigs are very cool. Get them when they are babies though and hold them a lot and they will be very affectionate and smart.

I saw a degus in the pet store the other day and it was one of the coolest animals I've seen. I asked and the person and she said it was an Australian gerbil, and very smart. It looked like a mini chinchilla, smaller than a Guinna pig and bigger than a teddy bear hamster.

While finding ifo for you I found this, and then the website that has more:

Many pet stores today still do not carry degus, the main reason for this is that is they are not yet as popular as chinchillas or guinea pigs or rats or hamsters etc. One of the main reasons in my opinion that they are not as popular is the lack of literature on them. Even pet stores confuse information on them. I have heard them call degus an Australian rat, an Australian gerbil and a south American squirrel! It is extremely difficult to find information about them in hard copy. Just about any books on them (unser degu for example) are in German. Many people will see degus in a store and will want to get one, but with it difficult to find information on them anywhere but the web. Add the fact that information that is available is often contradicting with other information the degus often are not cared for properly as a result have health problems and shortened lives. The goal of this section is to continue to provide owners of domestic degus with relevant and accurate as possible information so their degus can lead long and happy lives. During the past two years that this page has been around I have received many positive responses about it. So without further ado, here is my degu information.

A pet rat. lots of people think rats are weird, but really, they are the tamest, and most intellegent of the small pets. They don't require very much space or cleaning, just a small aquarium or wire cage to be clean every two weeks. Rats are extreamly social, and are great pets to carry on your shoulder around the house. For the tail-they really aren't that disgusting. But if you really don't want a rat because of the tail, you can buy a cirtan breed of rat called "tailess rats" which have no tail at all.

woman rats are rather smart and superb. check out the Dumbo rat, that's lovable. men can get very super and aggressive in the event that they do no longer look to be neutered. u can get 2 women human beings and that they might desire to get alongside in my view i think of one is sufficient... Play with it lots so it would not get timid. shop the cage clean and supply them an exercising wheel... be arranged to alter the bedding oftentimes as they pee lots. look online a thank you to look after them. they stay approximately 3 years. that's the problem w/ small pets they have not got an exceedingly long existence span :0(... O and comprehend no longer all ur pals will like them and a few may well be terrified or grossed out. If u purchase them in a puppy keep they might desire to no longer be grimy or diseased, they're bred as pets unlike a wild rat. i might shop faraway from hamsters they chew.. gerbils are a touch gentler....

don't get me wrong i love all animals i have had a zoos worth but i would have to go with a ferret. yes they have an odor but it can be controled. i was so scared of ferrts then my husband got his last december, zeus is our BABY BOY, but i wanted one of my own and he needed aplay mate so for my b-day this year(october) we bought asia. they are so wonderful but a high maintance pet. as they age they can have lots of health problems. i think it is so worth it even though there is alot of care involved you need to make it a family affair it is not hard they steal your heart so fast. i took on another at the same time we got our little girl asia just to house sit for a couple of months. you can go to ferret shelters or a pet store which ever you chose spend time with the ferret majorly the ones in shelters to make sure it is gental, they do get abused. if you go to a pet shop try to find a marshalls ferret the two i have are and the one i'm watching isn't we don't even know if he is fixed. here is the marshall website they have other cool links to check out www.marshallpet.com if you chose a ferret go to this site and do more reasearch. we don't need any more ferrets in shelters

Get her a Guinea Pig or Rabbit. They're both fairly easy to clean up after, and cheap, and they also grow really attached to their caregiver. They can play around in the floor, but you have to watch out for electrical cords!

you should get a sugar glider they are small and she would LOVE them! or you can get a chichilla she would LOVE that too!if you get either one before you get it you should look up as much as you can on ownig one especially suar gliders they are hard to take care of if you don't know the right way.I prefer chichillas because they are not nocturnal and are really soft and cute but I have both and they are both good pets so you choose.I LOVE!!!!!! Chillas (chinchillas) they are so cute and my aby doll is a chilla so you pick.

a 14 year old will probably want to hold anything you get her, so...with that in mind.
-hamsters dont like to be held and can bite, plus they are only really active at night.
-gerbils are worse than hamsters.
-rabbits really dont seem to cuddle and as social as she would want. if you take 'em out of thir cage they'll jump away.
-g pigs are loud and smell sometimes. but they are pretty social.
-rats are smart and dont bite like the 2 above. and i love 'em because they'll play.
-dogs are too much work.
-a cat is cool, but it can be a nonsocial one so get one thats real friendly when you meet them.
-a bird is BORING. cant really play with it.
-a chinchilla (sp?) is too bouncing and doesnt seem as social as your girl would like them to be.
-a snake is too laid back.
-fish you can only look at
-a bearded dragon is cool too! can hold them and they live for a while and is cool to watch them eat. easy to take care of but will cost a lot to get it started.

is that enough info? just remember to google and research anything before you buy it!!!!!
