If you want to get all philosophical about it, I just read a book about life called "Grendel" by John Gardner. It's a spin-off of the classic poem "Beowulf" told in the point of view of Grendel the monster. It has to deal with the meaning of life, how one should live, what role religion plays... everything philosophical about life. You should read it. It really puts things into perspective. In fact, i recently had to write a paper for English about it analyzing the meaning of life. I'd send it to you, but it's in my portfolio.
