Elementary my dear. Gases fit the volume of their container....they can expand unlike liquids and solids so the molecules of gas can diffuse through a surface at a much greater rate because of this and because they are compressible.

Gases by their nature have more freedom of motion.
Gases have more distance between the molecules, which means a molecule can move further before a collision which yield faster diffusion.
