Both have potential but neither is proven. Take Smith as he already has a year under his belt. Stash him away and watch his progress. It usually takes a QB three to four years before they start to produce at their position.

Smith endured a horrible rookie season with one touchdown, 11 interceptions and a horrid 50.9 completion percentage in nine contests. While those numbers should improve as an NFL sophomore, Smith still needs time and experience before he'll warrant much consideration in seasonal drafts. The former Utah standout does have the potential to be a nice quarterback in the long-term, however, so he is well worth a late-round flier in keeper leagues.

Walter will compete for the backup QB job in Oakland with mainstay Marques Tuiasosopo and could win it with a strong preseason. He was inactive for all of 2005 as he recovered from a sports hernia for part of the season, but is healthy now and even took second-team reps in minicamps this offseason. He's a sleeper since he'll need both Aaron Brooks and Tuiasosopo to crumble, but it's possible. Don't draft him unless you have unlimited roster space, but definitely remember the name as he could see an opportunity this year.

Answer: Alex Smith.
You can't measure heart and determination with $ and stat's.
He is a winner... and has the supporting cast... the 49er organization to make this happen.

Andrew Walter has that same potential... only It's never going to happen with the Raiders.

Walter has a bad o line...the raiders suck...i picked L jordan in my fantasy league in the first round (dumb pick) and i dont even use him cuz the raiders are so ***. Smith has more experience and a better team around him...gore allows the passing game to develop. You may say what about Randy Moss?...look at his numbers...the line cant hold up longer enough for the deep threat receiver to get down field. At this point I say Smith is better
