South Koreans Want Their Own Nuclear Arsenal
October 12, 2006
- Many adults in South Korea believe it would be in their best interest to acquire nuclear arms, according to a poll by JoongAng Ilbo. 65 per cent of respondents think their country should develop nuclear weapons.
Before the start of 2005, seven countries in the world—Britain, China, France, India, Pakistan, Russia and the United States—had acknowledged possessing nuclear arsenals. Under the "strategic ambiguity" policy, Israel has refused to publicly discuss its purported nuclear capabilities. In February 2005, the government of North Korea admitted publicly for the first time that it possesses nuclear weapons

No. To make a nuclear bomb is very difficult to make and most countries do not have the expertise to make them. Even if they knew how they wouldn't necessarily be able to get or make the parts. The situation as it is now is in balance. Other countries obtaining or developing this ability upsets the balance. Sure if you are in a country that doesn't have it, you would want it. Thats why its called the arms "race."

OK So when everyone has them, who will be the first to attack some one else? This was the US justification for its buildup of nuclear weapons. They were supposed to be a deterrent, so if everybody has them, isn't that more of a deterrent?
