Are you sports oriented, as it sounds? OK, we'll assume that you are. Taking the topic of softball, how about comparing high school softball to college softball. Or comparing softball to baseball? The categories for high school versus college could be field setup (distance between bases, pitching, fence distance, etc), equipment (if there are any differences) and level of competition. For baseball versus softball you could look at field setup (see above), equipment (obviously the ball, but also bats, etc) and rules.
Just some thoughts. Otherwise, what are your interests?

Here's a few examples:
*Monkeys v. humans (doesn't really matter if you're Pro-Evolution or Pro-Creation, it would still be interesting)
*Different cultures (ex: South America v. Spain because they're both Spanish speaking areas but have highly different cultures)
*America v. Europe
*A book that you have read that is also a movie: compare and contrast the book and movie (ex: The Devil Wears Prada)
*Males v. Females
*If it's a college paper, college v. high school...or if it's for high school, high school v. elementary school
*Religions (Pick any 2 and you will definitely find common themes as well as things that are very different)
That's about all I got for now, but I will add more if I think of some. Since the topic is so open, you can definitely take control as to whether you want it to be more of an opinion or research paper and that can help you decide a topic. Good luck!

you have to compare and contrast any two things? well lets see here: car types (honda vs. Cavallier), sports (volleyball vs. basketball), food (hamburgers vs. hot dogs), religious issues (Baptists vs. Muslim), Houses (Trailer house vs. rock house) Rivers (Rio Grande vs. Guadalupe) many many things sweetie..pick something...do a web....its where you pick a topic and you write your topic in the middle of the page and put a circle around it...say you picked hamburgers and hotdogs..write that in the middle of the paper and circle it....then put three lines out around it and on one of the lines write a summary of the first paragraph...such as....health reasons on why hamburgers are better to eat than hotdogs..circle it..then at the end of the second line...write something like...hamburgers are cheaper and go with more things than a hot dog....circle it...on the third write....your conclusion that wraps up why a hamburger is better than a hot dog...lol....then put it into an essay form..using your web outline..make sense? It got me through AP english good luck
