US and Iran wanted to have powerful arms. In fact, Iran was a past beneficiary of arms sale by the US.

Easier to state t he differences: In the US you can spew forth your garbage w/o consequences. In Iran you and possibly your family will be killed and tortured. You will be silenced so enjoy your hatred and freedom in the short time you have left.
