Devo was a breaking edge early "new wave" band. So were The Cars and a bunch of other bands. They just sang about freaky stuff that made no sense, but it was new and cool. Who cared what they were "whipping". lol

If somethin comes up that you just think you can't handle ya gotta "WHIP IT GOOD" lol it has that song in the movie Raising Helen and it goes well with the story

Don't read too much into it....
It was just another non-sense bunch of 80's weirdo music.
That song was about as socially redeeming as "Pac-man Fever"
