Non turbo smoke choking and no power. Been there International diesel over rabbit ears pass. second gear walking speed 4% upgrades anything above 4,800 feet. Good Luck Bet you wish you had turbo now? 15 year old diesel trucks did not have electronic fuel injection to control mixture more than about 3,000 feet... One Mile up almost any atmospheric engine suffers. And in 1993 there was little you could do other than check dealership for the high altitude kit. If you were going to stay high up. Diesel pump timing and injection stroke can be leaned out but when you return to low land you can burn a piston.

Keep your air cleaner clear and run some injector cleaner through the fuel system. Take it to a diesel shop and have them tune it for altitude. Put in an after-market turbo-charger if your going to stay and keep the truck a while.

i own a repair shop,and you may have to increase or decrease fuel pump pressure on it ,that's about all you might ever have to do to it to change elevation on it, id wait and see if acts like its sluggish on power before i had it re-adjusted on it,,chances are good that it will adapt over to the new altitude pretty good,if not it can be re-set on it to make up for the difference in the elevation on it,good luck i hope this help,s. i do this for a living,and someone has been copying off some of my answers ,if i find them i,ll turn them in.

I don't think there is any adjustment that can be done to a diesel for higher elevation since you can't really advance or retard the ignition as it is all on detonation from compression.
