"The mark of an immature man is to die nobly for a cause. The mark of a mature man is to live humbly for one"... If we follow that quote, then a terrorist is an immature man with visons of grandeur and the desire to leave a legacy. Instead of quietly working to better his position in life, he would rather die in a ball of flames so that he will be remembered as a hero to his people.

Terror cell leaders are typically failures from something else (business, medicine, etc). They aren't stupid, they usually have a chip on their shoulder and feel they failed because of others.
Terrorist followers, are just that - followers. They tend not to have a direction, but are led by the others. Rage. Hate. A sense of being "wronged" to the point of violent, and explosive reaction - which is used by the cell leaders. Most of these followers are deeply religious, and are easily swayed by the rhetoric of the cell leaders.
The cell leaders offer what Hitler did: A sense of national, cultural, and religious pride - at the expense of others. They turn hate and dissent into weapons. They become the successful leader within the terror organization they could not achieve in real life.

they're fighting for a cause....a cause that they considered real (whatever is it). Now are we fighting in Iraq for a real cause? I believe not, no weapon of mass destruction there...just some oils.
