Yes - continue doing your best...another 3 or 4 years and you'll be living life in college while those kids are busy robbing stores.

What you are doing is the best plan to follow. Do not antagonize the other kids by acting frustrated by their acts. This will only serve their plans to act up and to disrupt the class. On the other hand, don't go along with any of them if they try to rope you into their shenanigans.
You might (sometime on your own, so that the other kids won't know you did so) pay a short visit to a counselor or the principal, and complement the teacher and let it be known that the teacher is being professional and trying to do his/her best, given the support or resources he/she has to work with. By thus helping your teacher, the school administration will be more supportive of that particular teacher. Often, the "bad kids" can undermine a good teacher, because they will try to make it seem a teacher can't control and thereby teach his/her class, and the administrators thus ignore the teacher's write ups of students as mere whining. But students such as you can have a positive influence like no other if you will give such moral support. Administrators will then (one would hope) take the teacher's requests, suggestions, etc. regarding problem students much more seriously.

This is a tough situation, and i understand how you want to be apart of the group and feel accepted by them, but also be your own person and not let them affect you.

Follow your gut instinct. If these kids are bad news, don't get involved with them. They will only try to influence you to not acheive to the best of your abilities, and you may make decisions under their influence that you might regret later. But, this does not mean you can't be nice to them. Say hello to them and ask them questions nicely, or answer their questions if they ask, but don't let their nasty comments get you down. Just remember, if you have a problem, go to a trusted adult or friend immedietly. They can listen and give you advice about how to handle the situation.

If you don't even want to associate with them, ask the teacher if you can move to another seat. You would be suprised how well-focused and internally motivated you become when you are away from those influences. Don't let them get to you. You may feel upset or embarrashed if they make fun of you, but hey, it's only a short time in your entire life. Hey, just think of all the geeks like Bill Gates who owns his own company. Who has the power now?

I think the teacher has the right to put those brats to the office. Kids should go to school to LEARN not to have social time. Or to try to be cool.
