My sister needs some help with her math homework, and I can't do math for the life of me, so someone help the poor kid out...lol. Here's the question:

Given f(x)= k(2+x), find k if f-1(-2)= -3.

I asked her to check the question again, and this is what she put:

f( x ) = k(2+x), find k if f ^ -1(-2)= -3

I guess the "^" symbol is "to the power of..."...so it's:
f(x) = k(2+x), find k if f to the power of -1(-2) = -3.

I just asked my brother and this is what he told me.

f(x) = 2k+xk
f-1 = k
k = -3

f(x) = 3(2+x)

I'm assuming the "f-1(-2) = -3" means "inverse" ... that is, the -1 looks like an exponent. If that's true, this is the same as saying that f(-3) = -2. That might start her on the right track.
