I mean, if a lesbian wants to flirt with someone she fancies, how does she know the other girl isn't straight?

Now, isn't this just the same as hetero flirting? You smile, first and see what kind of response you get. If it's friendly but not overwhelming, she may well be hetero: but if it has something extra in it, well, jump in, baby.

LOL, you can't tell if someone is a lesbian by their hair or clothing...I mean not all lesbians, yes there are those who wear mens clothing and have short haircuts, but not all lesbians dress like that. I'm a super girly lesbian. I wear dresses, make up, heels, no one would ever know, in fact, butch lesbians don't know I'm one.
You can tell because there's a look in each persons eyes. It's the same look a man gives a woman, or vice versa, when they are checking each other out. They catch the other person checking them out and look away quickly...you don't wanna assume, for if you're wrong you'll look like an idiot.

We have great fun with this one at home - my sister and her partner are gay and so is my cousin and her two closest friends. Through them I also have met and made friends with many gay people.

On the one hand my sister and her partner dress in pretty lacy tops and wear pretty jewellery, my cousin lies in the middle but never wears skirts, but her two friends who are partners are the "cant be bothered how I look" stereo typical butch type. Much as we like their personalities, they horrify my sister and her partner as they "do not do much for the cause". Much like heteros you cannot tell always tell by the way people dress.

The thing we all recognise is that there is such a thing that gays use called gay-dar, and believe me it never ceases to amaze me when they tell me someone is gay, I still think how do they know but somehow they do.

I made a trip to Wellington, New Zealand for my sister and her partners wedding (not civil partnership) but a real wedding style event. I could have been forgiven for thinking that 98% of Kiwis were gay, but it took a brash American from Arizona to actually ask me if I was gay and when I said I wasn't - proceeded to enquire whether I was married, not happy that I was - she then proceeded to enquire whether I was happily married. Naive as I was I still didnt realise that she was hitting on me until one of my sisters friends regaled the event to some friends afterwards, needless to say the event and my naivety caused a lot of amusement.

Ha - cos dykes usually are pretty ugly and look like blokes - so that's why lesboes fancy em. How messed up is that - durrh - Why not have done with it and fancy a real bloke rather than a woman pretending to be a bloke - sorry I'm rambling again!!!

I think most 'lesbians' and gay men know where to find
each other, there is "logo" the gay tv station which pretty
much tells all about the 'gay' life style, for some 'unknown'
reason that I don't understand, gay people just always seem
to attract each other.

code questions do you like ( name a local lesbian of GLBT) place is one way.

Another is to say what do you do on the weekends and listen to see if a male is mentioned husband or boyfriend

Sometimes it is pretty obvious from dress and general vibes

if someone brings up any thing to you like what do you do say I like (Name lesbian place)

Tell her you are lesbian and see if she says I am also

I don't know, and I've wonder the same thing before. I guess they should take the chance. Or flirt a bit and see how the other person reacts.

Usually, that's too long for me. I consider it depends on the guy as well as his face though. Certain guys may pull off long hair and others can't.

They have short man like hair, are usually at least 50 pounds overweight, no makeup of course, smell like mens cologne (if your lucky), wear sneakers or workboots with their jeans, and have a certain walk.
