I am doing a school project and i need to know when a fetus loses its tail and gills, when its heart begins to beat, and when it begins to look like a human.

The pregnancy is broken down into the first trimester, second trimester and the third trimester.
The second trimester is when the fetus develops into the recognizable baby form. An ultrasound is done and you can see the heart beat. At that time, the sex can be determined.
The third trimester is when more intricate thing develop like the eyes. If, after the 28th week, you take a flashlight, hold it about 2 inches above the mother's abdomen and move it around, the baby will follow it with a hand.
