Thank goodness you've asked this. I thought my husband and I were the only ones who think him soooooooo not funny.

I know modern comedy is wasted on me, I just stare at the screen and ponder where the punchline is, or if they've taken up a foreign tongue.
So I agree ricky Gervais is not funny and I much prefer the traditional comedy classics. Rising Damp, Porridge, Just adding a little to your list.
I'm 40+ and I'm certainly not a fuddy duddy person yet.. I hasten to add there is still time yet....

If he'd just done two or three episodes of "The Office" and disappeared, he might have been funny, but by stretching out The Office like he did, doing Christmas Specials etc, he ruined it. David Brent was a good character, but after an hour, there's nothing more you can get out of him.
Plus "Extras" has to be the most self-indulgent sack of cr*p you could ever unwittingly stumble across.

I like his stand up. Extras is OK if nowt else is on. The office i never got tho i thought it was sh"t. Is it just me or does Ricky seem to be getting slightly to big for his boots now?. I always have preferred Peter Kay anyways he is much realer and funnier

urghhh, Gervais is not funny, he just takes the plaudits for the genius that is Stephen Merchant (the lanky guy in extras) - a hilarious west country lad if you as me and the real brains of the outfit he just doesn't want to be the showman
Karl Pilkington (another one of his sidekicks) is mildly amusing

my partner thinks he's funny, but i cant stand him.especially in "the office".i'd rather watch paint dry,i thought it was just me,and that i didnt have a sense of humour.i can honestly say i can sit through a full episode and not laugh.now fawlty towers with manuel is hilarious,i also like "some mothers do av em",and open all hrs.

I agree with you he is completely over-rated. I love Only Fools and Horses, Friends, and next week I am off to watch My Family being filmed, can't wait....

No you aint alone.
Gervaise is not even in the same league as Atkinson etc.
Extras is positively embarassing to watch, more like a documentary, how do the audience know when to laugh.
