When is a clothing article considered really "dated"?

I'm not necessarily talking about an extremely trendy item, just your everday moderately trendy clothing, like say, from the Gap or Old Navy. How long before it looks hopelessly out of style?

As long as it looks good on you, then it is never out of style. Throw it out when it is holey and moth-eaten =)

I would have to say anything from the 40's and 50's. Anymore just about everything is either in style or will be!

When the time it was in style is written all of the "trendy item".
